The Scottish MX5 cup is a one make race series based around the classic rear wheel drive roadster. The MX5 cup aims to be the most affordable circuit racing series in Scotland. MX5 racing has proven to be enormously popular in England with a number of different series with some weekends having up to 100 cars racing. And we hope to mirror that popularity in Scotland.
The race cars are based on the imported Japanese version of the MX5, the Eunos due to its LSD diff and are built to regulations in line with the English racing series. Donor cars are readily available at reasonable costs (£500-£1000) for those who wish to build their own cars with ready to race cars available for as low as £5000. To keep running costs down almost no modification is allowed to the engine and all cars run on a cost effective road tyre which can last the entire season. The road car has a strong following and a reputation for fun but forgiving handling characteristics. This coupled with the mechanical simplicity of the cars and low costs makes them the ideal race car for those taking their first steps into racing. |
